This painting was inspired by a drive on Sundays as I go to church. The hills go on forever it seems and you can see the road disappearing in the distance. I have stopped several times to take photos. This was painted from the photo but also my memory.

We see lots of old rusty pickups on our backroad adventures. I have been wanting to paint one for awhile and it must have been time. I love this style of pickup, it reminds me of my grandpa who would drive to our place in a pickup like this every morning for coffee. Sometimes he would have some Yucatan or Blackjack gum for us. Ahhhhh, sweet memories. I loved him so.

Going Home © Beth Cole | Oil on Canvas | 11 x 14
I was inspired to paint this piece by a photo I took last summer west of Merna. The grain bins look like a little family and I love the way the road recedes into the hills. Every painting teaches me something and this one taught me to take my time and not give up if it doesn't go as expected. Patience always helps. I loved painting this one.

SOLD - What Lies Ahead - 8 x 10 - Oil on Gesso Board
This view is just a few miles from our home at the foot of the Nebraska Sandhills. There are many roads like this in Nebraska, I like the symbolism of always taking you somewhere. I also wanted to paint this because of the fields. I was raised on a wheat farm in western Nebraska and my sisters and I farmed for my dad in the summer time. I guess I will never outgrow the beautiful shades of the earth, I really love them.

Calm Waters, 11 x 14, Oil on Wood Panel
I painted this from a photo I took of the Platte River east of Grand Island. It was a rainy day and the water was really shining. I took liberty with the colors and foliage, that's what I love about painting!

SOLD - Earthy Gray - Oil on Wood Panel - 12 x 12
Inspired by the view from my back yard on a foggy morning, I painted this with a palette knife, brushes and lots of layers. Custer County - SOLD - 9 x 9 - Pastel

Evening Light - 18 x 24 - Oil on Canvas
This was painted from a photo I took on the east edge of Merna, actually inspired by our family member's out buildings and hay field. The sun was just going down and the light over the field was beautiful, and I loved the rolling look of the field. That is what I was trying to capture.

Guardians, Oil/ColdWax/Photography, 11 x 14
These buildings are no longer standing but stood as guardians at the edge of town by the railroad tracks for many years. I was able to get a photograph of the top part of the buildings before they were torn down. I am very grateful I had the photo and enjoyed using my imagination and memory to create this piece with photography, oil and cold wax.

Squeak's Barn, Oil/ColdWax/Photography, 18 x 24
This barn was one of our favorites to photograph, it belonged to Squeak, a colorful person everyone in town knew. He has passed away and the barn has been torn down, I am so glad I had this photo of it. I tried to add some color to this piece as a way to remember all the color he brought to many people's lives.

SOLD. Our Town Merna - 18 x 24 - Oil/Cold Wax/Photo

This was a very fun process and I love the result, it was a delight to paint. It is painted on an 18 x 24 x 2 wood panel.

Running Free 18 x 24 ON HOLD
I was drawn to this scene because of the tall, soft grass and the horses running freely in the wind. I used my photo and cold wax and oil paint to create the original on a wood panel. Fine Art Prints are available in my shop.

Wind Poets - Photo/Oil/Cold Wax - 18 x 24
When it's snowy we go out. That's how I got the photo that was the beginning of this piece. I used oil paint and cold wax to finish the foreground, sky and edges. These windmills are a beautiful landmark of our town and I am grateful to do an art piece to feature them.
