The day was warm and bright. I was out with my paints, staring westward at a row of trees. When I finished, I packed up and turned around to head back to the car. I looked up and saw the most glorious clouds, impressions of beauty in the sky. I should have turned around sooner. I stared for awhile and took some photos and this is my impression of that view.

This painting was originally inspired by Willa Cather’s book, “A Lost Lady.” This started with my imaginings of the marsh behind the Forrester home in the early morning hours. I have continued to develop and refine the painting to its current, finished state.
Available through December 14th at Gallery 1516 in Omaha as part of the juried Nebraska Biennial 2025 Exhibition.

I am a Nebraska landscape painter who loves the land I grew up on and the play of light across it. Every painting I make starts with stepping into that landscape — into the chaos of nature — and simplifying what I see into something peaceful. If I could package that calmness, I would tie a bow around it and share it with you.
