Gallery of Collected Works
Some of the paintings
that have found their homes.
Each piece in this gallery has been collected by someone who felt a particular pull toward it — a quality of light, a familiar landscape, a moment they wanted to hold onto. These works are no longer available, but they represent the enduring connection paintings can make with the people who live with them.
Light and Air | Oil on Linen | 9 × 12 | © Beth Cole
The sky has endless possibilities for painters. This painting is one moment in time, the morning light and air is always an inspiration to me.
Showtime | Oil on Linen | 20 × 20 | © Beth Cole
There is one type of landscape painting of which I never tire, and that is reflections of the land in the water. I love painting scenes like this and I hope my affection comes through.
Barrett Creek at Sunrise | Oil on Linen | 20 × 20 | © Beth Cole
This is a larger painting of the plein air piece I painted early one morning at a small creek running through our campground, Barrett Creek. It was a joyous experience and I'm happy to share it with you.
Golden Hour Trail | Oil on Paper | 8×8 | © Beth Cole
A simple interpretation of how the sun works its magic as it sinks lower toward the horizon. It was painted with oil on fine art oil paper and mounted on a birch cradled panel.
At First Blush | Oil on Linen | 8×10 | © Beth Cole
The pink floral plant grows in the dry lagoon and makes the field more than ordinary.
For Such a Time As This, 16 x 20, Oil on Canvas, © Beth Cole
This painting is nothing like my plein air painting of the scene, or the photograph I took to help me remember. It is about the shiny water which was surrounded by dark green trees and grass when I observed it in person. My color study for this piece was warmer in every way and the final piece is where my paintbrush led as I trusted my intuition and memories of that place.
A Quiet Place | 12 × 12 | Oil on Linen | © Beth Cole
This painting is an adaptation of a beautiful rocky creek we drove over each day as we toured the area around our Colorado campsite. It caught my eye every time and finally I was able to capture my version of it in paint.
Big Horn Meadow | 8 × 10 | Oil on Panel | © Beth Cole
I visited the Big Horn area of Wyoming recently and had a chance to paint while I was there. This is my favorite view and painting, the first snow fell a few days before we visited the area so it was fun to capture that along with the beautiful meadow.
Hazy | 6×6 | Oil on Cradled Panel | © Beth Cole
The smoky haze in the air made an interesting sky that led me to capture it in paint.
Blooming | 8 x 10 | Oil on Panel | © Beth Cole
This field was a show stopper for me. The pink! I pulled over and did a plein air painting straight away.
Tangled | Oil on Panel | 10 x 10 | © Beth Cole
Life feels tangled at times, just like this old tree. But somehow, the light always breaks through.
Going Places | 8x10 | Oil on Linen | © Beth Cole
This road takes me to the places I need to go. It is an old friend.
Early May | 8 x 8 | Oil on Panel | Framed | © Beth Cole
Painted en plein air on a beautiful May morning.
Just Around The Bend | Oil on Panel | 8x8 | Framed | © Beth Cole
Painted en plein air just a few miles from home.
The Little Things, 8 x 8, Oil on Panel, © Beth Cole
This little still life was painted from a beautiful bouquet that was given to me for volunteering at a recent conference at our church. It was such a life giving day and I loved how the flowers were so artfully arranged by another volunteer, so I wanted to commit the whole experience to paint. Little things like this seem to make a big difference and I am looking upward with gratitude.
Optimism | 24 x 48 | Oil on Panel | Framed | ©Beth Cole
This painting was inspired by the Niobrara River near Valentine.
Break Forth, 10 x 12, Oil on Panel, © Beth Cole
The morning was overcast but it didn't keep the light from bringing the glow to a waiting world.
I have family in western Nebraska and on a recent drive there in the early morning, the sun was just beginning to show itself on the top of a single cloud floating alone. I hope you get a sense of the vastness of the sky and the wheat fields against it as the sun begins to rise and flood the land with light.
Payments available for this piece, please reach out. Thank you.
Gentle Mist, 20 x 20, Oil on Linen, ©Beth Cole
This painting began with a backward glance at the beautifully golden foliage on this tree in the early morning mist. I observed it as we were driving toward it but we didn’t stop in time to take it in. Fortunately, our return path allowed me to see it again and stop to admire it for awhile. I wasn’t able to paint it on site, but I recreated the memory from my photograph and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did that misty morning.
Pasture Shadows, 10 x 12, Oil on Panel, © Beth Cole
Willow and I were on a walk to the pasture when I happened upo this shiny water in the shadows of the pasture. The yummy greens of the spring grass against the warm golden light shining all around really grabbed my attention and I am happy to share it with you.
Golden Land | Oil on Panel | 10 x 12 | © Beth Cole
Most of my daily views are of fields, pastures, cattle and cedar windbreaks. But there are a few areas of our county that have bluffs and canyons and steep hills. One of these areas was lit up at the golden hour and I screeched on my brakes to take a closer look. The sky was full of clouds. It was an inspiring view and I'm happy to share my interpretation with you.
Strong Tower | Oil on Linen | 20 x 20 | © Beth Cole Nebraska Landscape Painter
This painting reminds me of these beautiful words from Proverbs 18:10. As I was working on these towering clouds it just reminded me so much of this truth, so I named the painting "Strong Tower."
A Moment In Time | 9 x 12 | Oil on Canvas | © Beth Cole
Inspired by time with friends near the South Loup rivwr in Nebraska as we spent a few days painting. This is my interpretation of the sky on our last morning. I will never tire of a view like this.
Warm Glow | Oil on Panel | 20 x 20 | © Beth Cole
My heart with this painting was to capture the sense of a place right before the sun rises. Imagine the stillness in the air, a small babble from the creek, the sing song of nature....cheerful and melodic. Meanwhile the sun ever gently inches up over the horizon, its warm glow leading the way.
Boxelder Road | Oil on Fine Paper | 10 x 12 | by Beth Cole
Started on location, finished in the studio. I wanted to try and capture the light and shadow as the day came to an end.
Gentle | 8 x 8 | Oil on Linen | © Beth Cole
Inspired by the beauty at Indian Cave State Park near Falls City, Nebraska.
A Peaceful Place | Oil on Linen | 10 x 10 | © Beth Cole
Painted en plein air on a beautiful morning. I kept it simple to focus on mood, glowing light and place.
Last Hurrah | 8 x 8 | Oil on Panel | © Beth Cole
The sunflowers at the edge of this harvested field had actually dropped most of their petals, but I imagined them in their recent glory.....the last hurrah if you will.... as I painted the light on the distant trees. It was a beautiful morning to paint and I enjoyed capturing this on location and finishing it in the studio.
“Hopeful” (study) Plein Air Painting | 8 x 8 | Oil on Panel | © Beth Cole
The zig zagging fields were quite interesting to me as I set up my paints on a recent summer day. I used a limited palette and translated what I was seeing into what I hope is a warm and inviting depiction of some of the lands of rural Custer County, NE.
Early May | 8 x 8 | Oil on Panel | Framed | © Beth Cole
Painted en plein air on a beautiful May morning.

Beautiful evening for a swim. I saw these cattle and the water and knew I wanted to capture it and share. Enjoy! This is an original oil painting.
