Farm At The Edge of the Forest - John Frederick Kensett

I am continuing my practice and study of painting pieces by master artists (here are others in the series, Gifford, Inness, and Savrasov).

This one, Farm At the Edge of the Forest by John Frederick Kensett, captivated me because of the gracefulness of the trees and the light peeking through underneath. I really loved the rhythm of the composition and the tones of the palette. This piece taught me how subtle are the shifts in value in those secondary colors of purple and orange. I did not match them exactly. Such a good lesson and good eye training for color mixing.
